GC students to spend night in a cardboard box

Grayson College Veteran Services will host the “One Night in a Cardboard Box” event presented
by the Homeless Coalition on November 15. Students and staff are invited to spend the night on
campus in a cardboard box to experience what it is like to be homeless. Registration will begin at
4:00pm with the event beginning at 6:00pm and ending on Saturday, November 16 at 6:00am.
Reservations are required to participate in the event due to limited availability, and the
reservation deadline is November 8.

A box and meal will be provided for dinner by Great Western Services and events will be
conducted throughout the night. Participants may bring the following items with them to prepare
for the event - blankets, sleeping bag, pillow, appropriate clothing, medications and other
necessary items. Food, blow dryers, curling irons or electronics will not be permitted.

Items will be collected to distribute to the homeless population during the annual Grayson
County Annual Point in Time homeless census in January. Acceptable items for donation include
- toiletries and hygiene products (nail clippers, razors, deodorant, toothpaste, lotion, shampoo,
conditioner, soap, body wash, etc.), personal and feminine products (pads, tampons, toothbrush,
hair brush, hair products for all hair types, etc.) and other necessities (underwear, socks, gloves,
beanies, bras, towels, wash clothes, etc.).

The college will also participate in the Share the Warmth Coat drive. Gently used or new coats
may be donated in all sizes. Non-perishable food and drink items will also be collected (canned
food, crackers, water, etc.). All students and staff may participate in the donation of items for the
event.
